Get urgent access to your keys and prepare your Lockbox before a session.
Need your key now?
Software emergency unlock
On the locked device, press Lock/Enter once (press again if the first press only woke the screen), then select Emergency Unlock and confirm. This ends the session and starts a 24-hour cooldown. Open the full guide for steps and troubleshooting.
Hardware emergency unlock
If software unlock is disabled or the device is unresponsive or out of power, follow the backplate guide to retrieve your key. This procedure is destructive and irreversible; the backplate must be replaced before it can lock securely again.
Software Emergency Unlock works locally without internet, when enabled. Losing Wi-Fi does not by itself make the software option unavailable.
Before storing keys
- Test with an empty box. Confirm that the intended drawer physically locks and opens. For Chaster, follow the empty-box test.
- Prepare independent emergency access. Read both unlock guides, find the device menu, and make sure you can access the tools required for the hardware method.
- Check emergency settings before locking. Software Emergency Unlock can be disabled for a session. Know whether it will be available to you.
- Check the physical box. A connected status, ready message, or running timer does not prove the drawer has locked or opened. See Chaster integration limitations.
After emergency access
Check that the drawer opens and retrieve your key. A hardware opening is not reported automatically, so software may still show a locked session. With Chaster, check both platforms afterward: session cleanup can fail. See the recovery FAQ.
