For first-time instructions, follow Chaster Setup. See Integration limitations for a quick list of boundaries.

Check the physical box

A ready message or running timer does not prove that the drawer has locked or opened. Check the intended Lockbox's screen and drawer.

Locking and openings

When does the Lockbox lock?

Start the lock sends the session to the box. Follow any device prompts and confirm that the intended drawer has locked. A delay is possible; no fixed response time is verified. Follow Setup before using keys.

Does the ready confirmation mean my Lockbox is physically locked?

No. It confirms a linked account and paired box, not connectivity, drawer closure, or physical locking.

Why will the Lockbox not open when the timer reaches zero?

Check Chaster for a freeze, unmet extension requirements, or a minimum duration. Zero alone does not complete the session. Use Chaster's available unlock controls, follow device prompts, and confirm that the drawer opens and both sessions have ended.

Why is my timer frozen?

Check Chaster's freeze status. A keyholder or extension can pause the countdown. The integration may also freeze a new session while it waits for device acceptance; acceptance releases only that approval freeze, when applicable.

How do I take a temporary opening or hygiene break?

Configure Temporary opening in Chaster, then start an opening there. If it is keyholder-only, ask your keyholder to start it. Follow the device prompts while the opening has time remaining.

The cooldown can block the first opening too. A device control alone does not start a Chaster opening.

Why is the Lockbox waiting after I end a break in Chaster?

Return the key, close the drawer, and follow the Lockbox's confirmation prompts. It may be waiting to confirm key return and relocking. If the timer stays paused, check Chaster for a separate freeze.

Where can I see my Lockbox during the session?

Open Actions → Research And Desire Lockbox in Chaster. Its card shows reported status and may lag behind changes. Select Open lockbox page for Dashboard controls. Chaster's timer visibility rules still apply.

Sync and Pull

Do time changes stay in sync?

Supported time changes sync in both directions. After an error, check both deadlines before retrying: Dashboard may have changed even if Chaster rejected the adjustment.

What does Pull from Chaster do?

It previews the Chaster changes before applying them. Check the selected lock, current Dashboard session, and proposed action; Pull can start, update, replace, or end a session. Opening the preview applies nothing.

Why does Pull offer to override or end my current session?

  • Override current session replaces the Dashboard session with the selected Chaster lock.
  • End means Chaster reports no active locked session while Dashboard still has one.

Check both platforms before confirming. If anything changes, refresh the preview. With several Chaster locks, Pull uses the linked lock when possible or asks you to choose.

Who can apply changes through Pull?

The R+D account owner or a keyholder assigned to the current R+D session. Give Up Control blocks the owner from applying changes. Only the owner can connect their Chaster account.

Why can Pull not use my Chaster lock?

Check that the lock uses Research And Desire Lockbox and has an available integration session. Creating or replacing a session may also require timing information.

Reconnect with Connect Chaster if authorization expired. For an expired state token, return to Integrations and start a fresh connection attempt.

Why does Pull say already in sync when timers differ?

Pull checks only supported session state and settings. Refresh both pages and compare matching time values and time zones. Chaster's maximum deadline may differ from its current countdown. See Integration limitations.

Voting

Follow Voting with Chaster for setup and link-sharing steps.

Does Chaster voting enable Dashboard voting?

No. New Chaster sessions start with Dashboard voting off; existing sessions keep their settings. Pull does not copy the voting switch or vote sizes. Users with Modify session access can configure Dashboard voting separately.

Do Dashboard votes count toward Chaster's required visits?

No. Use Chaster's Share links link for required visits. Dashboard sends time adjustments, and each platform keeps its own vote records.

What if a Dashboard vote reports an error?

Check both deadlines before retrying. The vote and Dashboard deadline change may remain recorded even if Chaster rejects the adjustment.

Does hiding the public listing stop voting?

No. Show in Public Links hides the directory entry. To restrict ordinary public access, turn off Enable public voting on lock duration in the current session and save. Chaster Share links remain separate.

Accounts

Why is the account check green in Chaster but the dashboard says Not connected?

Complete Connect Chaster in Dashboard and check Linked Account. Chaster's account check recognizes the account association; Dashboard also checks authorization. Reload Chaster's Locking method panel if its checks have not updated.

Why does Chaster say no Lockbox is linked?

Pair the box to the R+D account linked to Chaster. Follow the pairing guide, then return to Chaster setup.

Which Lockbox is used if I own more than one?

Chaster setup has no box picker. Run an empty-box test to identify which box receives the session before storing keys. Choosing a Chaster lock in Pull does not select a physical box.

Why can I not create another Chaster lock after unlocking?

An unlocked lock may still use a lock slot. If you reach Chaster's limit, review and archive a completed lock you no longer need. Archiving is separate from physical unlocking.

Can I disconnect Chaster during a session?

Finish the session first. Disconnect is blocked while the linked session is active, on a break, or waiting for device confirmation. It clears stored authorization and retains history; it does not unlock the box or end the Chaster lock.

Connection loss and emergency access

Keep an independent way to access your keys

Do not rely on an outage to release them. Read the emergency unlock guide and emergency backplate guide before a session with keys.

What if Wi-Fi or Chaster is unavailable?

Restore connectivity, wake the Lockbox, follow its prompts, and check both platforms and the drawer. Dashboard may show a session before the device catches up.

What happens to Chaster after a software emergency unlock?

Once the server receives the device event, it marks the Dashboard session abandoned and attempts to archive the Chaster lock. Check Chaster afterward: failed sync can leave it running. A hardware emergency opening is not reported automatically.

Optional account permissions

Do I need to connect my accounts every time?

No. Authorization refreshes automatically when possible. Use Connect Chaster again if it cannot refresh or access has been revoked.

What access does Connect Chaster request?

Profile, locks, shared locks, keyholder features, and messaging. Review the full permission screen before selecting Allow.
