Lockbox Keyholder Guide

A Keyholder can manage another person's lock session. Treat that access as an explicit responsibility, not blanket permission.

Agree before connecting

The Lockee and Keyholder should agree on:

• what the Keyholder may view and change;
• the planned duration and any maximum duration both people accept;
• break timing and how urgent break requests will be handled;
• a normal contact channel and a separate urgent signal;
• when the Keyholder will end a session without debate;
• whether public voting, hidden time, Permalock, or Emergency Unlock settings may be changed; and
• how either person can end the partnership and recover account access.

Connect as partners

1. Each person signs in with their own dashboard account. Never share passwords.
2. The Lockee opens Settings → Partners and sends an invitation to the intended Keyholder.
3. The Keyholder verifies the sender and accepts only after reviewing the agreement above.
4. Both people confirm the Lockbox and intended role appear correctly before starting a session.

Permissions and visibility

Capabilities depend on the active session and dashboard options. Before a real lock, verify on both accounts which actions are available. A Keyholder may be able to view session state, change allowed settings, approve breaks, or end a held lock. Some actions require the Lockbox to be online and will not reach a device in deep sleep or without Wi-Fi.

Do not assume a dashboard command succeeded. Ask the Lockee to confirm the physical device state.

Run a Keyholder test lock

1. Keep the Lockbox open and the key accessible.
2. Start a short test session with no advanced features.
3. Send one agreed change from the Keyholder account.
4. Confirm it appears on the physical Lockbox.
5. Have the Keyholder end the session and confirm the device unlocks.
6. Review Emergency Unlock and hardware emergency access together.

Notifications and offline behavior

Dashboard notifications are useful records, not emergency communication. When the Lockbox is offline, remote changes may not arrive until it reconnects. See Offline Mode for the current capability matrix.

End or revoke the relationship

Either person can withdraw consent. End active sessions safely first, confirm the Lockbox is physically unlocked, then remove the partnership in Settings → Partners. The Lockee should also review device access in My Devices.

If either person cannot access their account, the partnership is disputed, or the dashboard state is unclear, do not start another lock. Contact support@researchanddesire.com from the account email and include the usernames and Lockbox identifier. Do not send passwords or pairing codes.

Keyholder preflight

• We have current consent and an urgent communication method.
• We tested remote release on this Lockbox.
• We understand what happens if the device goes offline.
• The Lockee can reach local and hardware emergency access.
• We agreed how either person ends the relationship.
